In the last study, we saw that the people were to create anointing oil according to the recipe the Lord gave Moses. This oil was to be used to anoint the tabernacle and the furnishings therein. It was also for those who worked in the tabernacle:
“Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests. Say to the Israelites, ‘This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come. Do not pour it on anyone else’s body and do not make any other oil using the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred. Whoever makes perfume like it and puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from their people'" (Exodus 30:30-33).
The priests were to have a distinctive odor that was not to be replicated for anyone else or for any other purpose. The same is true for you. You have an anointing that is unique to who you are, to who God created you to be. God wants to smell that aroma, which means He wants you to function in your anointed activity as often as possible. You are neither to try and imitate someone else's fragrance nor use your anointing for selfish or idolatrous purposes. It is a unique connection between you and Your Maker.
In older movies, there was a common scene of a prisoner escaping and the guards deploying bloodhounds to follow the trail. They would allow the dogs to smell something that was part of the escapee's world and off the dogs would go. That is how unique God has made you to be—down to the very identifying factor that other creatures can detect. Are you being true to your anointing? How often can God detect the odor of your presence? What more can you to do to release your fragrance? Are you using your fragrant anointing according to the purpose for which God gave it to you?
