As Leviticus comes to a close, the Lord summarized the blessings if the people obeyed but also the problems if they did not. Let's examine some of the blessings in this study:
“I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you. You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new. I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high" (Leviticus 26:9-13).
Here is a summary of the blessings: 1) fruitfulness and increase; 2) all the promised blessings of the covenant will be in effect; 3) abundance; and 4) God will dwell and walk among His people, accessible to their needs. God also reminds His people that He brought them out of Egypt, walking "with heads held high." In other words, they will draw strength and joy as they reflected on their glorious history of God's acts on their behalf.
When you are obedient to God's assigned purpose, you should have tangible evidence of God's favor. Are you experiencing the favor of God? Can you be specific? Are you experiencing increase in your work or spiritual life? Do you pray with boldness, claiming the promises of the New Covenant? Are the blessings of God overtaking you? Do you sense God's presence? Is He walking "among" you as Jesus is depicted doing in the early chapters of Revelation, evaluating your walk and work? And are you exalting in God's goodness as represented by your history and testimony? Are you reviewing and repeating your history for others so they too can be encouraged by God's faithfulness?
