An overnight success seldom is and those that are can seldom maintain their success because they were not prepared mentally, spiritually, or even practically. That's the reason the Lord was going to deal with their enemies who were already in the land into which they were going as follows:
"Do not be terrified by them, for the Lord your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God. The Lord your God will drive out those nations before you, little by little. You will not be allowed to eliminate them all at once, or the wild animals will multiply around you. But the Lord your God will deliver them over to you, throwing them into great confusion until they are destroyed" (Deuteronomy 7:21-23).
That's probably how the Lord will work with you, no matter how talented you are or how urgent the work is that you're doing. He will give you gradual success, developing you along the way otherwise your success may actually lead to your demise. That's why you must not fall into the trap of thinking, "I should be further along than I am" or "I am getting old and my best years are behind me." Either thought could cause you to act with undue urgency or passivity, ignoring the fact that you are still developing and growing. At the same time, your ongoing development will not prevent you from having a measure of success and bearing fruit along the way.
Are you growing and developing in preparation for your success? Is your ability to handle more increasing and improving? What are you doing to ensure that you can handle more? Are you living up to the true size of your gift and calling? God has a promised land for you and He will teach how to occupy it bit by bit. Don't try to move too fast but at the same time, don't lag behind the timetable God has for you as you occupy the land He has assigned you.
