God helped Moses take care of a succession plan for after he died. Joshua was the man and we read in Numbers 27 what Moses did to identify Joshua as such:
So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership, and lay your hand on him. Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence" (Numbers 27:18-19).
As Moses was about to die, we then read this:
Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the Lord had commanded Moses (Deuteronomy 34:8).
In one instance, Joshua had the spirit of leadership and in another the spirit of wisdom. Is it a fair and logical conclusion then that Joshua had a spirit of wisdom to lead because leadership was his purpose in life? Then can we also assume that this wisdom was to help him do creative things as leader for he was certainly going to face problems and challenges no one had ever faced before which were going to require God's creative wisdom to address them?
It's not enough to know your purpose; you then need to know what to do with it and how to fulfill it. That will involve creative wisdom for no one has ever tried to be who you are for you are a unique being. For me, I need wisdom to build in Africa, to write, and to publish around the world? "God, give me specific wisdom for those endeavors!"
If you were going to ask for the spirit of wisdom, what would it be for? Would it be to teach, to lead, to build, to give, to learn? Is there someone in your life or even online who can mentor or impart something to you like Moses did to Joshua? It's sort of like raising a child. Their birth is the easy part, the hard part is the next 21 years! To raise them you need wisdom and the same is true for your God-given purpose. Ask for it in faith and then expect to receive it so you can be effective doing what God created you to do.
